It’s the end of 2022, and if you want to squeeze in one more project, the small modern kitchen is the perfect project to end the year. When designing a kitchen, a bathroom, or your home in general–your first thought should be practicality. Small spaces, or in this case, small kitchens, don’t have to make your guests realize they have claustrophobia. Planning a small kitchen layout can be finicky, and while you may think options are limited, there are ways to maximize your space and make your small kitchen look bigger than it seems. Here some Small Modern Kitchen Design Ideas for 2022!
Let Go Of Unnecessary Appliances
It’s 2022, do you need the Stand Mixer out all the time? Most people’s kitchens have items they rarely use out and about. The designer can utilize every inch within a small kitchen to make the most unadorned spaces look bigger than they seem. So your first step in designing the ideal small modern kitchen is to keep the necessary things. Bake cookies all the time? Keep the mixer. You’ve made a smoothie using the blender you received seven years ago, four times? Maybe it’s destined for special occasions only. In a small kitchen, you shouldn’t fill the limited space you already have with items you don’t always use. A modern take on a small kitchen is simple and sleek– creating something more accessible and devoid of clutter.
The U-Shape Kitchen
Remember, we’re thinking small for this one. So, whether it’s a Galley Kitchen or a U-Shaped Kitchen, trends in 2022 indicate that another necessity is natural light. The benefit of having a small kitchen is that even the smallest windows can provide the boldest illumination now. We spoke about keeping the right kitchen appliances but not where to store the ones sticking around. The approach here is to think outside the box…or the cabinet. Kobi Aharon, our Chief Design Officer, designed the goal of a beautiful Manhattan high-rise utilizing the Maxima 2.2 Kitchen Model. The created L-shaped bar assisted this modern kitchen design by visually impacting the kitchen beyond the confines of its simple galley-style kitchen. So by utilizing space that would have otherwise been entirely underutilized, the kitchen grows in size by taking advantage of unused space.
The L-Shaped Kitchen
City Apartments usually have little space dedicated to the kitchen. To combat this, keep solid cabinetry to the lower half of your kitchen and break up the higher levels with open kitchen shelves. Available cabinetry provides an unforeseen depth that otherwise wouldn’t be noticed. When tasked with designing an L Shaped Kitchen, Cesar NYC chose Kitchen Designer Gregory Hitchock to tackle this creative endeavor. The thought was to play with this interior space’s visual and functional dynamics, embrace the creative use of open shelving, and include a floor plan with an L-shaped kitchen island that substantially increased workspace and seating options. The L-shaped kitchen provides a larger-than-life appearance and, with a creative layout, will give a lasting impression on any houseguest.
Custom Kitchen Cabinets
The Big One. Storage. Out of all the small kitchen design ideas we’ve mentioned, this is probably everyone’s most enormous ask. We touched on the topic in our segment regarding the U-Shaped Kitchen, but creative custom cabinets are your secret weapon when making your small kitchen deceptively larger. I’m not talking about a simple island on wheels; I’m referring to a corner cabinet that pulls out into an organized layer of all those pots and pans you have cleverly stashed in your stove storage. Custom cabinets provide customized wood, finish, door styles, and hardware specifically designed to address your goals and needs. If you choose an l-shaped kitchen, there will be underutilized corners, and it’s up to your designer to provide you with creative options.
